Texas Democrats political funny business

Anne Schroeder at Politico's Shenanigan blog notes that a campaign staffer for Rick Noriega who is running against Sen. John Cornyn posed as a blogger while calling Cornyn's office from Noriega's campaign office where the caller ID was not blocked. Busted.

An Austin American-Statesman blogger, Gardner Selby, has more details.

...

Rick Cofer, who has told reporters he’s working on special projects for the campaign, was revealed as a caller presenting himself as a blogger named Jay Coxlie who called Cornyn’s Washington office on Tuesday afternoon seeking the schedule of Cornyn’s public events. That call occurred after a similar call that was cut short by the person calling earlier in the day, according to Cornyn’s office.

Cofer’s identity was indicated when a Cornyn aide saw the telephone number on caller ID. Another aide employed the Google search engine to check the number and it came back to a listing for Cofer.

...

Cofer denies that he made the call, but the post says that he was reprimanded by the candidate.

Ironically, "Cornyn’s office always sends out detailed public event schedules that are posted for access by reporters on an Associated Press calendar called the daybook." Oh, well....
