Going after the Democrat vote in Michigan

James Taranto:

This leads to the possibility that the Republican primary will be decided by Democratic crossover voters. In 2000, notes the Detroit Free Press, "a substantial number of Democrats and independents voted in the GOP primary for winner John McCain." This year McCain and Romney are the top two contenders. There is a move afoot for Democrats to vote "strategically" for Romney, on the theory that he'd be a weaker opponent--or, should we say, a stronger contender for the "silver"--in November.

The Wall Street Journal's Alex Frangos reports that McCain began his primary-day campaign by touring a Traverse City funeral home. So apparently he isn't giving up on the Democratic vote.

Maybe he was looking for the Michigan business climate.
