Gaza takes break from firing rockets to shop in Egypt

Thousands of Palestinians streamed over the Rafah border crossing from the Gaza Strip into Egypt on Wednesday, after a border fence was toppled, and went on a spree of buying fuel and other supplies that have been cut off from their territory by Israel.

They used donkeys, carts and motorcycles to cross the border, and streamed back over the fallen fence laden with goods they had been unable to buy in Gaza. The scene at the border was one of a great bazaar. The streets were packed, and people were bringing into Gaza everything from soap and cigarettes to goats, chickens, medicine, mattresses and car paint.

Israel ordered the closing of its border crossings into Gaza last week, halting all shipments except for emergency supplies, after a sustained and intense barrage of rocket fire into Israel by militant groups in the Gaza Strip, which is run by Hamas. Israel allowed in some fuel, medical supplies and food on Tuesday, as temporary relief, but has said that its closure policy remains in place.

Gaza shut down its only power station on Sunday after it ran out of the industrial diesel fuel it needed.

Initial reports suggested that Hamas militants had used explosives to blow a hole in the corrugated-iron border fence at Rafah. The Rafah crossing into Egypt has been shut since Hamas took over Gaza in a short war with Fatah last summer.

They must have needed fuel for their rockets. They are unlikely to be able to carry over enough for their power plant. Hamas has made a mess of its opportunity to lead the Palestinians only making their situation worse. Its refusal to stop the war crimes perpetrated by the rocket launchers is costing the Palestinians dearly and this is at most a brief respite.

CNN reports that Egypt is "open" to the move by the Palestinians for the time being. Israel is concerned about what they will bring back with them to use in making war against Israelis. That may limit how long they let the situation exist.

    BRAVO! So glad someone(Egypt)is paying attention to the suffering caused by the illegitimate state of "Israel". As a historian I have always known the secret that has been kept from the American people. ISRAEL WAS FOUNDED ON TERROR!!!

    I have never seen a high school or college text that mentions the Irgun or the Stern gangs with more than a cursory glance.

    It was these two terror organizations that ethnically cleansed neighborhoods in Jerusalem and Bombed the King David Hotel (1946), killing 91 people, including 17 Jews.

    When are we going to wake up. The Jews have a homeland. It is the USA! There are more Jews here than in the state of "Israel".

    Lets dump this ridiculous idea of a theocratic state and welcome them home.

Drones appear to be replacing jets for many operations.  The Russia-Ukraine war is an example of that.  Drones are often hard to detect and can be used for intelligence operations as well as for attacking enemy targets.  It would not surprise me to see drones engaging other drones in combat.  They also cost much less than manned fighters.

Apple's huge investment in US including Texas facility

Blaze: Apple announced a $500 billion commitment to infrastructure in the United States over four years, its largest commitment to domestic spending to date. Apple said it will expand teams and facilities in Arizona, California, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Washington as part of its new spending. With a new facility in Houston, Texas, Apple will reportedly double its investment in advanced manufacturing along with increasing investments in AI and silicon engineering. The company said in a press release that the Houston facility will produce servers to support Apple Intelligence, the "personal intelligence system that helps users write, express themselves, and get things done." ... The Texas facility will be for advanced technologies.   Texas has become a place that is very supportive of the tech industries.  Austin and Houston have seen much of the tech growth in the state.  Texas universities have been active in the AI field.
