WaPo finally notices that being anti war puke not a political asset
Washington Post:
"In his campaign ads and speeches, Sen. John F. Kerry has made his military service in Vietnam and antiwar activities after leaving the U.S. Navy a hallmark of his bid for the Democratic nomination. To Kerry's image-makers, the Massachusetts senator was a patriotic war hero and a principled opponent of a conflict that cost more than 50,000 American lives.

...
"Moreover, in recent days Republican operatives have been circulating copies of Kerry's testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in April 1971, which has formed the basis of much of the conservative critique about Kerry's efforts against the war.
...
"Although many of the alleged atrocities have never been verified -- and some have been disproved -- Kerry told the Senate that such stories were not isolated occurrences but had happened 'on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command.'
"He told the Senate panel: 'They told stories that at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in a fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam.'
"He maintained that the United States 'has created a monster, a monster in the form of millions of men who have been taught to deal and to trade in violence.'
"Some veterans and conservatives have taken offense at Kerry's nearly 33-year-old characterization, saying it insults the vast majority of soldiers who served with honor."
The story goes on to quote Kerry supporters who excuse his bad conduct.
