The last resort
This is not about a tourist vacation spot. It is the location where John Kerry and many liberals say you must go before using force on the bad guys. One of Kerry's problems is that he never says where the last resort is. In the case of Iraq, the US and the UN had been diddling around with them for over 12 years before President Bush said that resolution 1441 was Saddam's last chance, i.e. do this right are we are headed to our last resort. Kerry thought this a precipitus "rush to war."
The problem with both men's position was that compliance relied on Saddam keeping his word. Fortunately for the world Saddam could not avoid the last resort which for him turned out to be a spider hole. For Kerry one gets the impression that the last resort comes after a terrible attack on the US. After all, the 9-11 attacks persuaded him that it would probably be all right to execute terrorist who kill Americans--something he had arrogantly and condesendingly opposed in his '96 Senate race. He voted against the death penalty for terrorist who kill Americans in the late 1980's.
It seems for Kerry the last resort is always after it is too late. Throughout his career he has been repeatedly willing to make the gift of time to those who want to destroy us. It can only be hoped that Americans will not give Kerry the gift of time in the Oval Office where the last resort will mean more dead Americans. Kerry is a man who learned nothing from Vietnam. He still draws on all the wrong conclusions he deluded himself with upon his return to the US and the anti American participation in the war. Like most of the anti war pukes, he really did not oppose the war in Vietnam, only the American part of it.
