DeSantis nails the media for their role in Russia collusion hoax

 Red States:

...

Today, Gov. Ron DeSantis responded to the revelations and managed to parlay it into a takedown of the media. He managed to strike right at the heart of the issue.

The critique about the media using anonymous sources to launder misleading or sometimes outright false claims is dead on the money. We’ve seen example after example of mainstream outlets pushing wild conspiracy theories based on anonymous sourcing in order to attack Republicans only to eventually find out they were baseless. The starkest example of the last year involved the infamous “Russian bounties” story that was pushed so hard prior to the 2020 presidential election.

DeSantis points out that the buildup of the Steele Dossier, which largely began in early 2017 and continued into 2020, was perpetuated by countless anonymously sourced reports, usually claiming to come from within the DOJ and its subordinate FBI. The walls were always “closing in.” Now we know that the dossier’s contents were laundered by Clinton operatives to Danchenko who then shared the false allegations to Steele. From there, they were disseminated to a more than compliant media, willing to print anything that harmed Donald Trump.

But as DeSantis notes, they destroyed their credibility in the process. People have begun to believe their own eyes and not what a biased press tells them. This latest betrayal of trust, including the fact that The Washington Post knew Steele’s source was a Russian agent in early 2017, only compounds the split between the general public and the news media at large.

...

It is about time that the media should be held accountable for their role in perpetuating this fraudulent attempt to overthrow an election and smear Trump and the people associated with him.
