Texas adds 29,000 new jobs as unemployment drops to record low

The Texas unemployment rate fell back to its all-time low in April as the state economy continued to create jobs at a solid pace.

Texas employers added 29,000 jobs last month, and more than 280,000 over the year, an annual growth rate of 2.7 percent, the Texas Workforce Commission reported. It was the 108th consecutive month of year-over-year job growth, the agency said.

The unemployment rate fell to 3.7 percent, returning to the record low reached in November.

The jobs ranged from construction to professional business services and healthcare.  Texas continues to attract new manufacturing business.  Petrochemical producers continue to announce new construction.
