The Trump agenda

 W. James Antle III:

...

The first 24 hours of Trump’s presidency bode well for those of us who would like to see a tighter border, more domestic energy production and a robust defense of American national interests rather than a complacent acceptance of dictates from supranational organizations with different agendas.

Long before he ever ran for office, Trump complained that the U.S. government was poorly run and that foreign governments were taking advantage of us. He reprised this long-standing conviction in his inaugural address: “We have a government that has given unlimited funding to the defense of foreign borders but refuses to defend American borders or, more importantly, its own people.”

Trump’s inaugural address was a more polished version of his stump speech on the campaign trail. What his remarks might have lacked in poetry or soaring rhetoric, they made up for in laying out what Trump says he will do in his second term. To me, it was more like a State of the Union address – and in Trump’s words, “the pillars of our society lay broken and, seemingly, in complete disrepair.” His sweeping set of promises are also a measuring stick by which Trump’s successes or failures can be judged.

Although some of Trump’s promises were more general – “The future is ours, and our golden age has just begun” and “America’s decline is over” – others were not, and Trump will be judged by how he accomplishes them. In four years, the border will or won’t be secure, consumer prices will or won’t be under control and the country will be at peace or it won’t. Voters will be able to decide for themselves whether the promises Trump made were kept.
...

By now voters should have recognized that electing Democrats was a mistake. The Biden administration quickly went downhill with open borders and other liberal nonsense.  Trump will also unleash US energy production.  That will probably see more drilling in Alaska and other states.  Texas has continued to produce oil during the Biden regime.  The border will be back under control.
