In a recent move that has raised eyebrows and frustrated many, NBC has attempted to link a Supreme Court ruling on bump stocks to mass shootings.

The Supreme Court’s decision to hear cases challenging the federal ban on bump stocks has reignited debate over gun control, but NBC’s breathless reporting has been criticized for its lack of evidence tying bump stocks to recent mass shootings.

The Supreme Court agreed to hear cases that challenge the federal government’s ban on bump stocks, devices that allow semi-automatic rifles to fire more rapidly.

This ban was implemented by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) following the tragic 2017 Las Vegas shooting, where the shooter used bump stocks to kill 58 people.

NBC’s report seemed intent on sensationalizing the issue by drawing connections between the Supreme Court’s decision and the broader issue of mass shootings.

They contend that any changes to firearm regulations should be made by Congress, not through bureaucratic reinterpretation of existing laws.

It is not clear why the Bidne administration has not attempted to get Congress to pass a ban on bump stocks for civilian use.  There are already bans on the sale of machine guns outside the military and law enforcement.
