The appalling US State Department response to fighting in Gaza

The State Department spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, called on Israel to do “more to meet its own standards and avoid civilian casualties”.

“The United States is appalled by today’s disgraceful shelling outside an UNRWA [United Nations Relief and Works Agency] school in Rafah sheltering some 3,000 displaced persons, in which at least 10 more Palestinian civilians were tragically killed,” Psaki said in a statement.

On Wednesday, at least 15 Palestinians who sought refuge in a UN-run school in Jabalya refugee camp were killed, and the UN said Israeli artillery had apparently hit the building. The Israeli military said gunmen had fired mortar bombs from near the school and it shot back in response.

The US called that attack “totally unacceptable and totally indefensible”.

Psaki said UN facilities should not be used as bases from which to launch attacks.

“The suspicion that militants are operating nearby does not justify strikes that put at risk the lives of so many innocent civilians,” she said.

The only people who benefit from casualties in these facilities are Hamas.  Psaki's assumptions that the Israelis are shooting out of suspicion is absurd.  Troops can tell when they are being fired upon and from whence the fire is coming.  They are trained to respond to those circumstances.

The most valid assumption is that Hamas fighters were firing from locations within the UN facilities which they have used as an armory during the current fighting.  Jen Psaki is not competent to make the kind of judgments she is asserting.  She needs to take a breath and get some advice from a trained professional soldier instead of just reflecting Hamas propaganda.

Other such claims have been disproved already which makes the current jump to assumptions even more problematic.  These facilities have been hit by errant Hamas and Islamic Jihad rockets and then they tried to blame Israel.  It is possible the attacks were deliberate on the part of the Palestinians.  If you understand the mind set of this death cult you are less likely to jump to invalid conclusions.

29 % of companies say they are unlikely to keep insurance after Obamacare
