Shouldn't there be a Republican on the GOP ticket?
From Henry Olson writing in the Wall Street Journal:
He actually gives some other reasons but I think my question captures the real problem with a McCain-Lieberman ticket. McCain relationship with the conservatives base of the Republican party is already tenuous and selecting Lieberman would hurt more than help. In fact it is hard to see where he would help. Is he going to attract Democrat votes? He did not when he ran in 200r. He did not when he ran for reelection to the Senate. Is there a state where he could make a difference? Probably not.
McCain can choose Romney to help him carry Michigan and bolster his economic message. He can choose Huckabe to bolster his standing with evangelicals. He can choose Palin to bolster his appeal to women voters.
