Iran again shows bad faith with hostages

AP/Fox News:

Britain said Thursday it is seeking United Nations condemnation of Iran for its capture and detention of 15 sailors and marines in disputed waters in the northern Persian Gulf.

The British announcement came even as Iran's top national security negotiator said Tehran may delay its promised release of the sole female British sailor if London takes the issue to the U.N. Security Council or freezes relations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Tony Blair's official spokesman dismissed a suggestion Wednesday by Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki that Britain should resolve the crisis by admitting that its personnel had made a "mistake" and crossed into Iranian waters.

Instead, Britain has been seeking a U.N. declaration condemning the detentions....

By withholding the return of the woman sailer the Iranians are admitting that they are being held for extortionate purposes. The UK should go ahead with the UN proceedings and put the Iranians and their bad faith on the defensive. The UN should take action to force the release of the kidnap victims and condemn the Iranian regime.

  1. I'll go you one better. The UK should state that not returning all of the hostages within 48 hours will be taken as a declaration of war from a hostile and threatening regime, at which point the UK will selfishly do everything necessary to end that threat as soon as possible. After 49 hours, flatten Tehran (for example). See which tyrrany is interested in playing the UN BS game after that. The West's despicable patience with evil is the only reason Medieval-era thugs and wingnuts have any political power left in this world.
