Brits raid bomb factory in London

Times:

A man was shot when officers from Scotland Yard's anti-terror branch mounted a massive dawn raid on a suspected bomb factory in East London this morning.

Dozens of officers wearing protective clothing and gas masks raided the house in Lansdown Road, Forest Gate, at 4am in what was described as an "intelligence-led" operation.

The injured man, aged 23, was taken to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel where he was later arrested on "suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism." A 20-year-old man, thought to be his brother, was arrested during the raid.

Sources close to the operation said that the property targeted, which neighbours said was two terrace houses knocked together, was a suspected bomb factory.

"Because of the very specific nature of the intelligence, we planned an operation that was designed to mitigate any threat to the public either from firearms or from hazardous substances. Some officers were armed, and others equipped with protective clothing," Mr Clarke said.

"The investigation, to prove or disprove the intelligence that prompted the operation, continues. As always this will be thorough, and one part of it will be a painstaking search of the premises in Landsdown Road. This has started, but may take some time, in all probability several days, to complete."

Although Lansdown Road and the streets either side were cordoned off by officers in chemical protection suits, residents were not evacuated. The Health Protection Agency, which is advising the police on the operation, said that the risk to the public was "very low".

Neighbours said that the house was occupied by a family of Bangladeshi origin with two sons and two daughters. "Several people who were also present in the house at the time of the search have been moved to other premises. They have not been arrested," Scotland Yard said.

...

And the war goes on despite the desires of the anti war left to surrender.
