NY Times:
North Korea said Friday that the crisis over its nuclear weapons program could be resolved if the United States was willing to normalize relations, including replacing the cease-fire that has existed since the end of the Korean War with a permanent peace agreement.Looks like they are ready to surrender to the status quo, something they were not willing to do in 1953.

The armistice signed in 1953 has been in place for decades as hundreds of thousands of troops remained massed at both sides of the border between North and South Korea.
The North Korean news agency quoted the spokesman as saying, "To replace the fragile cease-fire mechanism by a lasting peace mechanism on the Korean Peninsula with a view to doing away with the last leftover of the cold war era is essential not only for the peace and reunification of Korea but for the peace and security in Northeast Asia and the rest of the world."
The announcement suggests that North Korea intends to make a peace settlement and normalization of relations the main thrust of the negotiations in Beijing.
