Vietnam and the Democrats
This is not about a quagmire. This is about how Democrats wiggle and posture when they have screwed up badly. In Vietnam, the liberal Democrats strategy for handling aggression from North Vietnam did produce a quagmire. Once the realization of how badly their strategy was working became evident Democrats went through contortions to attempt to blame some one else for the mess they made. They tried to blame the military whose advice they did not follow. They tried to blame Nixon, whom they blocked everytime he attempted a strategic move outside the borders of South Vietnam. If their was one constant in the Vietnam war it was the Democrats refusal to take responsiblity for the mess they created.
In Iraq, the Democrats screwed up badly again. Many of them opposed the liberation of Iraq, and argued that Iraq would become a quagmire. However, major combat operations were over in less than a month, and the remnants of Saddams odious appartus is being dismembered methodically by US troops. Having been so wrong for so long the liberal Democrats are attempting to portray the victory in Iraq as something like a defeat. They make bogus claims that the US was mislead into fighting the war to begin with. They act like the loss of a few troops since the end of major combat operations is a sign that the US was wrong to liberate Iraq. Attacks that are far weaker than they predicted are somehow evidence of poor planning by the US military.
This repeated dishonety by liberal Democrats means only one thing. These people are not to be trusted on matters of national security and should be defeated at the polls. They need to be decisively rejected so that their dishonesty, their politics of fraud will not be rewarded.
