NY Times: British Police Arrest 9 in Antiterror Sweep The detainees were said to include Anjem Choudhury, a preacher who has expressed support for radical Islamists and frequently courted official disapproval. Britain  has become the home to radical Islamist and the government has had difficulty ridding itself of their presence because of EU rules and their on political correctness.  The country has had difficulty in deporting the undesirables and their detention polices leave them little room to hold these people indefinitely.

Air strikes not deterring ISIL advance against Kurds

Reuters: U.S. planes pounded Islamic State positions in Syria for a second day on Wednesday, but the strikes did not halt the fighters' advance in a Kurdish area where fleeing refugees told of villages burnt and captives beheaded. U.S. President Barack Obama, speaking at the United Nations, asked the world to join together to fight the militants and vowed to keep up military pressure against them. "The only language understood by killers like this is the language of force, so the United States of America will work with a broad coalition to dismantle this network of death," Obama said in 40-minute speech to the U.N. General Assembly. ... There is a video at the link above.  We don't have sufficient aircraft in place to attack their movement to contact at this time.  The air strikes have been hitting infrastructure targets mainly at this point.  As noted in a post below we are finally shipping some A-10s to the area that should be operational next month.  Those plan...

A-10's finally deploying to Middle East

The Hill: The Pentagon is deploying 300 airmen and 12 A-10 combat jets to the Middle East in early October, according to the Indiana Air National Guard. The six-month deployment from the 122nd Fighter Wing is not specifically part of President Obama’s fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, but the airmen and jets could provide air support to troops battling ISIS on the ground. "I don't know of a time in Blacksnake history we have taken this kind of aviation footprint forward," said Col. Patrick R. Renwick, 122nd Fighter Wing commander, in a statement. "The A-10 'Warthog' is uniquely suited for the Combatant Commander's needs, and the Blacksnakes are the right team to bring that capability to combat." The airmen have been through "extensive preparation," the statement said, ranging from "cultural awareness to weapons qualification to medical training." Renwick called the deployment "historic for its length and ...

Exports needed to deal with increased production

Fuel Fix: The going rate for a barrel of oil in the U.S. could tumble $30 below international benchmarks in the coming decades if U.S. policymakers don’t reverse a ban on exporting crude oil, according to a report by analyst group Wood Mackenzie. The falling prices could be made worse by new drilling technology that may boost recovery rates by as much 100 percent and is expected to add an additional 1.5 million to 3 million barrels per day of new oil production. That’s as much as 25 percent more oil than is expected today, according Wood Mackenzie. U.S. crude oil production has already hit a string of recent highs thanks to technologies such as horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. Production has increased to about 8.5 million barrels per day in June, compared to 5.5 million barrels per day in June of 2011, according to figures from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. ... China wants US and West to pay for ITS pollution reduction

Fox News: While President Obama challenged China at the United Nations to follow the U.S. lead in pushing for drastic reductions in national carbon emissions to save the planet from “climate change,” it appears that China has dramatically different ideas. As in: no. According to a document deposited at the Geneva-based U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in advance of a planned meeting next month, China -- now the world’s largest source of greenhouse gases -- insists that the U.S. and other developed countries endure most of the economic pain of carbon emission cutbacks, and need to make significantly more sacrifices in the months ahead. Carbon emission cutbacks by China and other developing countries, the document says, will be “dependent on the adequate finance and technology support provided by developed country parties” to any new climate accord. In other words, only if Western nations pay for it. More specifically, only if Western taxpayers ante up. Among other...

US now attacking ISIL oil refineries

Washington Times: The U.S. military began dropping missiles on Islamic State-owned oil fields in eastern Syria Wednesday, part of an overarching strategic plan to dismantle the terrorist network’s ability to finance its violent Jihadi war. United States fighter jets and aircraft belonging to two of its Arab partner nations began pummeling modular oil refineries in Syria at about 4:30 p.m. EST, a senior U.S. official told The Washington Times. The oil refineries are “fairly small” in size but numerous, the official said. Destroying those refineries delivers a powerful blow to the Islamic State, according to the official. “This attacks their ability to make money,” the official said. “This is their funding stream. This is their revenue stream, or a large part of it.” ... The group has been making more than $50 million a month from the oil revenues it reaps off of the hundreds of Syrian refineries in its possession, according to Reuters. That money comes from deals that Islami...

Does anyone fact check the President's speeches?

Washington Free Beacon: Obama Praises Muslim Cleric Who Backed Fatwa on Killing of U.S. Soldiers Controversial cleric gets nod in Obama’s speech at the United Nations The cleric also embraced the Hamas death cult.  It is hard to see why Obama would find someone who wants to see our troops killed praiseworthy, or even think they guy is a "moderate."

Where did Obama get the idea that no religion approved of ISIL approach?

NY Times: ISIS’ Harsh Brand of Islam Is Rooted in Austere Saudi Creed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State, adheres to a ruthless creed that has clear roots in the 18th century Arabian Peninsula.  I suspect that al Baghdadi thinks he is doing what Mohammad commanded.  His brand of Islam is based on religious bigotry and an intolerance of any deviation from his weird beliefs.

Why not bomb ISIL in the daylight while they are working rather than destroying their buildings and janitors?

Terrorist in Syria moving out of their bases to avoid US strikes

Reuters: Al Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, the Nusra Front, has evacuated its bases in populated areas of the Idlib region in northwest Syria after U.S.-led forces carried out air strikes on the group, its fighters said on Wednesday. Another Syrian Islamist group, Ahrar al-Sham, has also ordered its followers to evacuate bases, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitoring group. "Heavy weapons have been moved out of the bases. We do not want civilians to be harmed because of us," one Nusra fighter said in an online message posted on the Internet. The Observatory also reported the Nusra withdrawal. At least 50 fighters from the Nusra Front and eight civilians were killed in strikes by a U.S.-led coalition in Syria on Tuesday, the Observatory said. ... This is why we need to have more planes striking around the clock to make it impossible for these people to move their equipment.  By being to target restricted we are giving these guys an ...

These are the people we are going to support?

McClatchy: Syrian rebels angry that strikes hit al Qaida ally but not Assad Somehow we expect the weakest faction in Syria to be our boots on the ground in a war where they are on the side of our enemy.  I don't see how that is going to work.  We should instead invest more in the Kurds and help them establish a homeland in Iraq and Syria.  They are at least on our side in this war. NSA located terrorist targets in Syria

Rowland Scarborough: The U.S. ability to pinpoint with airstrikes the operational hubs of the al Qaeda offshoot Khorasan Group in Syria and penetrate one of its bombing plots shows the importance of the much-maligned National Security Agency , defense analysts said Tuesday. The Khorasan Group is an especially hard target because, unlike other al Qaeda spinoffs, it stays in the shadows and refrains from pronouncements on social media. Its goal is to design explosives that can defeat airport security and blow up an airliner, killing hundreds of people. Its prime target: the United States. ... Defense analysts said that signals intelligence or Sigint — the result of intercepted communications — likely played a major role because developing spies in war-wracked Syria has been difficult at best and often results in unreliable information. The NSA has weathered a barrage of criticism since last year, when rogue contractor Edward Snowden leaked to the news media reams of top-secret ...

Experience demonstrates that claims of growth from alternative energy are wrong

NY Times: The Benefits of Easing Climate Change For all the fears that curbing carbon emissions will put the brakes on economic growth, it might actually enhance it. Let's see.  Spain nearly bankrupted itself by pushing alternative energy.  Even Germany as rich as it is has made itself less competitive and harmed its economy with its Big Green push and in this country, Obama wasted billions on green projects that were costly failures.  The fact is that current alternative energy is less efficient and more costly.  It has not created the jobs predicted by its proponents.  The suggestion that there are benefits to it is a liberal's fantasy attempting to justify their agenda.

A bad faith claim of bias against voter ID law

NY Times: Plaintiffs Claim Bias During Closing Argument Against Texas Voter ID Law The challenge to the identification rules, which went into effect in 2013, could affect procedures in Texas for the Nov. 4 general election. I just do not buy these claims of bias.  They are an insult to the intelligence of blacks and Hispanics who are just as capable of getting an ID as anyone else.  Their real agenda is to make it easier for Democrats to cheat by using bogus registrations.  We have an administration in Washington that wants to facilitate voter fraud.
