Well, when federal law is being violated and federal personnel and property are under threat, the government certainly can send the National Guard from one state to another. If Newsom doesn’t want Texas troops marching through California, then he shouldn’t want his state doing literally exactly what triggered the Civil War.
Trump absolutely has the authority and the duty to carry out federal law. As we’ve seen in cities like Portland and Chicago, there are now Democrat-run jurisdictions that not only won’t cooperate with federal authorities in upholding the law, but they are also outright putting up impediments to doing so.
Portland’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement office has been inundated by Antifa-allied leftist agitators for months. They’ve caused mayhem, they’ve attacked journalists, they’ve demonstrated a flagrant disregard for the law, and it seems local authorities won’t do a thing about it other than complain that the Trump administration is enforcing immigration laws and causing disruptions.
It reminds me of how before the Civil War pro-abolition newspapers and journalists were attacked in pro-slavery states and those states did nothing about it. It was these incidents that prompted Abraham Lincoln to deliver his famed Lyceum Address, which brilliantly decries “mob rule” as a threat to free government.
Right now, Portland has mob rule. And Chicago is close to it. The city, under the direction of leftist Mayor Brandon Johnson, has made ICE operations extremely difficult if not impossible to carry out.
There are daily “protests” at the ICE office in the Chicago suburb of Broadview that have turned violent. Five people have been arrested and charged with battery on a police officer.
On Saturday, Border Patrol agents in the area “were rammed by vehicles and boxed in by 10 cars,” according to the Department of Homeland Security. The agents shot one woman who was allegedly brandishing a firearm during the confrontation.
In the Chicago police dispatch audio recording released by the New York Post one of the dispatchers can be heard saying, “Per the chief of patrol: Clear everybody out, we’re not responding over there.”
The Chicago Police Department insisted that they sent officers to the scene, but the dispatcher’s line demonstrates that at the very least police officers have been given mixed messages about whether they are allowed to come to the aid of federal authorities.
The Chicago mayor certainly added to the perception that the city is in full insurrection mode.
He’s declared that parts of Chicago will be “ICE-free zones.”

This Democrat insurrection is against the enforcement of US immigration laws. It appears to be wholly a Democrat insurrection. There should be no ICE-free zones in the US, and those attempting to thwart US immigration law should be held accountable. The rebellion against immigration enforcement must be defeated.

I’m sorry, Oregon, we fought a civil war over that. And your idea lost. There is no legal justification for state nullification of federal law. Legally and morally, you’re on the wrong side of history. You’re siding with terrorists who are trying to maim and hurt federal agents. For what? Trying to enforce an existing federal law, and specifically, targeting people who have criminal records, here illegally, and are dangers to the community that you will not protect.
