Feds flagged transactions with keywords 'MAGA', 'Trump' for financial institutions: House panel

The panel described an effort by which Americans might see their transactions flagged while making innocuous transactions such as purchasing a Bible or shopping at sporting goods stores.

The House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government on Wednesday announced that it had obtained documents showing that federal agencies flagged financial transactions for financial institutions using politically sensitive terms such as "MAGA" and "Trump."

The panel described an effort by which Americans might see their transactions flagged while making innocuous transactions such as purchasing a Bible or shopping at sporting goods stores.

"This kind of pervasive financial surveillance, carried out in coordination with and at the request of federal law enforcement, into Americans' private transactions is alarming and raises serious concerns about the FBI's respect for fundamental civil liberties," the committee said in a press release.

The panel subsequently announced it was seeking interviews with senior intelligence officials, including former Office of Stakeholder Integration and Engagement in the Strategic Operations Division of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) Director Noah Bishoff.

I get the impression that the pervasive use of the term "MAGA" is used because they don't want to be seen as not wanting to make America great again.  I am not sure how those terms might even be used when engaged in a financial transaction.  The only thing that comes to mind is a donation to Trump or one of his support groups.

Drones appear to be replacing jets for many operations.  The Russia-Ukraine war is an example of that.  Drones are often hard to detect and can be used for intelligence operations as well as for attacking enemy targets.  It would not surprise me to see drones engaging other drones in combat.  They also cost much less than manned fighters.

Apple's huge investment in US including Texas facility

Blaze: Apple announced a $500 billion commitment to infrastructure in the United States over four years, its largest commitment to domestic spending to date. Apple said it will expand teams and facilities in Arizona, California, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Washington as part of its new spending. With a new facility in Houston, Texas, Apple will reportedly double its investment in advanced manufacturing along with increasing investments in AI and silicon engineering. The company said in a press release that the Houston facility will produce servers to support Apple Intelligence, the "personal intelligence system that helps users write, express themselves, and get things done." ... The Texas facility will be for advanced technologies.   Texas has become a place that is very supportive of the tech industries.  Austin and Houston have seen much of the tech growth in the state.  Texas universities have been active in the AI field.
