Deer crossing

 Washington Post:

When and where you’re most likely to hit a deer and what daylight saving time has to do with it.

I live in a rural area of Texas and have encountered deer crossing the road on some occasions.  It requires quick reflexes and good brakes to avoid them.  I recently had to jam on the brakes when three deer including a small doe ran across the road.  I did wind up bumping into the smaller deer but we both survived.

In Texas, we also have to deal with wild boars.  My granddaughter had one come out of the fog at night.  The collision tore up two tires and bent a steering rod and strut.   The car is still in the shop on that one.  The range in size is from that of a large dog to much bigger.  A friend about a mile from my house killed one that was so big he could not pick it up with a front-end loader on his tractor.
