Trump's move in Syria actually tied to 'ally' Turkey

NY Times:

America’s Allies Fear That Traditional Ties No Longer Matter Under Trump

President Trump’s disregard for friendly nations in Europe and Asia could fundamentally diminish America’s global clout, analysts say.
Trump reportedly made his decision about pulling troops from Syria after a conversation with Erdogan of Turkey.  I think Erdogan played on Trump's stated position of opposing long-term military operations in areas like Syria.

While I have a much lower regard for Erdogan than the President apparently does, it was a move consistent with his instincts to avoid prolonged military operations.  I think the move carries great risk to those who helped the US defeat ISIS, particularly the Kurds. I suspect Erdogan's motives were to make it easier for him to attack the Kurds and were not really tied to ISIS.

Erdogan acts like an Islamist despot.  His jails are brimming with political opponents.  I do not trust his advice on any matter, especially when it comes to his defense of genocides of the past and his general hostility toward Kurdish freedom.

Since Erdogan came to power in Turkey he has reduced that country to an ally in name only.  Erdogan facilitated the Muslim migration into Europe which has increased the risk of terrorist attacks in those countries.  He is a disrupted figure who has not been noticeably helpful in the war being waged against us by radical Islamists.
