Zombie computers on the rise
It is also the way enemies launch cyber attacks through a series of these zombie computers making it more difficult to trace the source of the attacks.Twelve million computers have been hijacked by cyber-criminals and detected by security vendor McAfee since January, the firm has said.
It reports there has been a 50% increase in the number of detected so-called "zombie" computers since 2008.
The true number of newly hijacked PCs is likely to be higher than those detected by McAfee alone.
The figures come as a report from Deloitte said a global approach to cyber-security was needed.
"Doing nothing is not an option," said Deloitte's Greg Pellegrino.
Everything that depended on cyberspace face unprecedented risks, said Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu (DTT).
"This issue is moving so quickly, and with so much at stake economically and in terms of safety and security for people, we don't have 100 years to figure this out," explained Mr Pellegrino, who is a global public sector industry leader at DTT.
McAfee also revealed that the United States now hosted the world's largest percentage of infected computers at 18% with China a not too distant second with just over 13%.
"The massive expansion of these botnets provides cyber-criminals with the infrastructure they need to flood the web with malware," said Jeff Green, senior vice-president of McAfee.
"Essentially, this is cyber-crime enablement."

We need to be able to trace back to the source of the zombies and we also need to enable some automatic counter attack. Until we are able to counter attack we will always be on teh strategic defensive absorbing the blows of the attackers.
cant trace em back...
ReplyDeleteif you have that capability, and you use it, then no one has any privacy at all. ZERO.
to give a better real world example..
you get a call, its from a criminal... you trace it back to find out where it is from. its a secluded pay phone... your men get there, and they have taped the receivers together so that the call is coming in from the other pay phone... so now you have another jump to trace.
with computers, and a bot net... you can be 100 phones deep... and like throwing a loop for a blood hound, you can loop back through them again...
even worse... trip one, and the network of jumps can change instantly... so as you tracing the 20 extra jumps, they go away..
then add that the addresses can be faked.. and so you end up tracing to a plae that was wrong.
and you have obfuscation servers.

also, one can get a plain old account by mail.. pay for it... and that is the end result... except that the account owner lives in china.
there ARE things that they can do. i have worked on technology. but alas, they arent too bright about it.
socialists appoint people for reasons otehr than merit... soooooooo, they are not going to do anything that is effective. they WANT the crisises.
the minute you automate a coutner attack you have given them a false flag weapon. they just have to spoof coming from another target, and voila, we attack who they designate. they get a huge military based machine that they didnt pay for that they then can direct through subterfuge.
as long as you have left leaning people who beleiven their imaginatinos of the world are real, you will never solve this problem sicne the biggest hole in the whoel thing, is their ignorance, refusal to learn, etc.
PEOPLE are the reason you can solve this.
and to really give you enough to understand this, wouild take literal volumes of work, and then the left will deny and scramble it, and so its not worth doing.
suffice it to say that because operations are reversable, you cant make them secure (by classic methods. even quantum cryptography is using some time scale or money scale, or effort scale to stay ahead of things, but not stop them)
if math wasnt the way it was, then you could plug the hole... but then again, you woudlnt have computers, and you wouldnt have life, and you wouldnt have REAL fairness sans the false accounting of the delusional thinkers
