Al Qaeda victim offensive on Gitmo

Byron York interviews the guy who is primarily responsible for the suggestion that al Qaeda and abu Ghraid created more jihadis than they held. I don't doubt that the captured terrorist told him that, but I doubt that they were telling the complete truth. It sounds like they were indoctrinated to say these things in hopes that it would lead us to release the terrorist we were holding.

Think of it as an an Qaeda information op similar to the one they and the Taliban use in Afghansitan to discredit the air attacks that are so devastating to their operations. The air attacks make it difficult for the enemy to sustain operations for more than the time it takes for the air planes to get on station. Since they have no effective weapon to defeat the air attacks they use information ops to make us hesitate to use the planes. The chief information op is that we are killing civilians. Usually they supplement this information op with some human shields they force into the targets.

I think a similar case can be made for their attacks on Gitmo, which they cannot touch militarily, but which they hope to close with their information operation and the help of their useful idiots in the so called human rights organizations. We would be wise to study these information ops the way we study other operational moves by the enemy. Half of their war effort by their own estimation is in the media battle space. I think Obama is about to surrender to one of their operations.
