Winners and losers
Politico picks both, but I think they miss the mark particularly on winners. Most of the losers they select are Republicans and the only Republican they pick as a winner is Susan Collins. Obviously since the Democrats won the Presidency and picked up some seats they deserve some credit, but the Politico overlooks some real winners.
First off Texas has proved that conservatism can produce prosperity and Republicans again won every statewide office including reelecting Sen. John Cornyn who is smarter and more influential than Collins who did win reelection in a more hostile environment. Another winner in Texas was Pete Olson who defeated Nick Lampson. The Democrats helped Lampson steal Tom DeLay's old seat in 2006 but he could not win with a real Republican on the ballot this time. The Democrats ran a dirty campaign against Olson and he still won comfortably.
With Texas creating half the new jobs in the US last year you would think that others would be looking this way for an example and not embracing the Michigan example that Obama seems to like.
