Mumbai terrorist ambitions exceeded their means

Daily Mail on Sunday:

The only terrorist captured alive after the Mumbai massacre has given police the first full account of the extraordinary events that led to it – revealing he was ordered to ‘kill until the last breath’.

Azam Amir Kasab, 21, from Pakistan, said the attacks were meticulously planned six months ago and were intended to kill 5,000 people.

He revealed that the ten terrorists, who were highly trained in marine assault and crept into the city by boat, had planned to blow up the Taj Mahal Palace hotel after first executing British and American tourists and then taking hostages.

...

A mission of that scale is beyond any trained special ops unit of that size much less the terrorist sent to Mumbai. It might be possible for a 10 man team to blow up the large hotel, but expecting them to sort out British and American tourist to kill and also take hostages is beyond the ability of any force of 10 men with weapons. It can be seen by the random acts of violence in the hotels while others escaped. In short, the plan was unrealistic.

  1. But this is probably the first time terrorists in India did a profiling of their victims. They also seem to have picked Nariman house as a target because of the Israeli/Jewish connection.
