Palin not interested in Senate seat

Former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin says she is not interested in running for the U.S. Senate and prefers her current position as governor of Alaska.

"No, I'm not planning on it because I think the people of Alaska will best be served with me as their governor," Palin, who has two years left in her term, told NBC television in an interview.

Interest in the 44-year-old first-term governor has remained intense since she and Republican presidential candidate John McCain lost the election to Democrat Barack Obama and his vice presidential running mate Joe Biden a week ago. She has granted several television interviews since then.

Palin has been mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in 2012 or a possible contender for the Alaskan U.S. Senate seat held by Ted Stevens, who may be forced out of Congress because he was convicted of seven felonies for failing to report more than $250,000 in gifts.

If Stevens loses his seat, Palin could run for it in a special election.

"You know, when you talk about that white hot spotlight -- that's not really attractive to me," Palin said about running.

She will be able to accomplish much more as Governor than as a senator. I Washington she would be just one of a 100 seeking things for constituents. As Governor she can actually shape events and build a record that will position her for a future run for President. In the next four years she can fill the holes that critics found in her resume and make a strong run.

She can also get a big book contract and make some money.

Drones appear to be replacing jets for many operations.  The Russia-Ukraine war is an example of that.  Drones are often hard to detect and can be used for intelligence operations as well as for attacking enemy targets.  It would not surprise me to see drones engaging other drones in combat.  They also cost much less than manned fighters.

Apple's huge investment in US including Texas facility

Blaze: Apple announced a $500 billion commitment to infrastructure in the United States over four years, its largest commitment to domestic spending to date. Apple said it will expand teams and facilities in Arizona, California, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Washington as part of its new spending. With a new facility in Houston, Texas, Apple will reportedly double its investment in advanced manufacturing along with increasing investments in AI and silicon engineering. The company said in a press release that the Houston facility will produce servers to support Apple Intelligence, the "personal intelligence system that helps users write, express themselves, and get things done." ... The Texas facility will be for advanced technologies.   Texas has become a place that is very supportive of the tech industries.  Austin and Houston have seen much of the tech growth in the state.  Texas universities have been active in the AI field.
