The Michelle Obama victim strategy

Sunday Times:

Republicans believe that they have found a key to defeating Barack Obama by contrasting his wife Michelle, potentially America’s first black first lady, with Cindy, wife of John McCain, the Republican presidential nominee.

Michelle Obama, 44, has been portrayed as Mrs Grievance by Republican opponents, labelled a “baby mama” (single mother) of Obama’s daughters, even though she is married, and denounced for her “terrorist fist jab” - a victory punch on the knuckles - with her husband on the night he won the Democratic presidential nomination.

Rumours persist that she may have referred to white people as “whitey” on videotape with Louis Farrakhan, the antisemitic leader of the Nation of Islam, even though it is the number one item on Obama’s new rapid rebuttal website, Fight the Smears. No such tape exists, his campaign insists.

The two families are squaring up on the battlefield. Obama has already warned Republicans to “lay off my wife” and has aggressively challenged allegations about her. The commentator responsible for the “terrorist fist” remark apologised last week but other opponents show no sign of backing off.

The Obama campaign appears to be in a full on victims offensive. Most of the "offensive" remarks would have gone unnoticed if they had not publicized them. The "whitey" tape was an allegation by a Hillary supporter and not by conservatives. I am pretty in tune with conservative media and the only real push back against Michelle came when she made the gaffe of saying her husband's candidacy was the first time in her life she was proud of her country. Obama's attempt to spin this statement into something more political acceptable looked contrived.

I think this is contrived to silence criticism of Michelle. It is not going to work and it just highlights some of her problems. If she is going to campaign and attack Republicans she should expect return fire. If she wants to be the admiring wife looking on while Obama speaks, she will draw little attention.

Drones appear to be replacing jets for many operations.  The Russia-Ukraine war is an example of that.  Drones are often hard to detect and can be used for intelligence operations as well as for attacking enemy targets.  It would not surprise me to see drones engaging other drones in combat.  They also cost much less than manned fighters.

Apple's huge investment in US including Texas facility

Blaze: Apple announced a $500 billion commitment to infrastructure in the United States over four years, its largest commitment to domestic spending to date. Apple said it will expand teams and facilities in Arizona, California, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Washington as part of its new spending. With a new facility in Houston, Texas, Apple will reportedly double its investment in advanced manufacturing along with increasing investments in AI and silicon engineering. The company said in a press release that the Houston facility will produce servers to support Apple Intelligence, the "personal intelligence system that helps users write, express themselves, and get things done." ... The Texas facility will be for advanced technologies.   Texas has become a place that is very supportive of the tech industries.  Austin and Houston have seen much of the tech growth in the state.  Texas universities have been active in the AI field.
