McCain and conservative Christians
Francis Wilkinson talks about why conservative Christians are not fond of McCain.
I get the impression that the NY Times inserted this op-ed to suppress the votes of conservative Christians. It does not mention Obama. There is no comparison of the two candidates on the issues. I think that is because Obama would suffer by comparison.
...The problem for conservative Christians is they don't have much of a choice in this race. Obama belong to a church that followed the goofy racist Black Liberation theology which preached of message of hate. He has a real screwy interpretation of the Bible which suggest he does not know the Old Testament from the New in terms of what is required for believers. Neither man is likely to be actually hostile to conservative Christians, but Obama's abortion position should be a non starter for most.
This may be a bigger sore point than Mr. McCain’s lack of enthusiasm for marriage amendments or his reluctance to put the kibosh on stem cell research. Mr. McCain doesn’t just irritate Christian conservatives like Dr. James Dobson on retail issues; he alienates them wholesale. In a broadcast report heralding “a new religious landscape” in which evangelical votes are up for grabs, David Brody of CBN News noted that Mr. McCain still “hasn’t shared his faith walk with voters.” To the former Navy man, who has managed to keep his religion mostly to himself for 71 years, it probably sounds like walking the plank.
