Illinois Guv's statments inconsistent with Rezko witnesses
Chicago Sun-Times:
In another story the Sun-Times says prosecutors had evidence that Rezko had used nominee parties to make contributions to Obama but decided not to go into that at the trial. Apparently, Obama's disgorging of the contributions made the evidence less significant to the prosecutors.
Obviously the prosecutors believed the witnesses they put on the stand or they would not have been presented. This suggest that the Governor was the one whose credibility was in question and the trial certainly had evidence suggesting that he engaged in illegal acts.Newly unsealed court files in the Tony Rezko corruption case show that federal agents interviewed Gov. Blagojevich "on multiple occasions" and that the governor denied having conversations described in court by two key prosecution witnesses.
That raises the possibility that either the witnesses lied under oath or that Blagojevich lied to federal agents about statements he was said to have made, tying state business to support for his campaign.
