Jim Webb VP?
James Oliphant takes up the liberal fantasy of a liberal war hero to save Obama's peace ticket. I am not sure Webb would go for that and having two freshmen senators on the ticket does not scream EXPERIENCE.
Another problem with this fantasy is that it ignores Webb's weakness as a candidate, He barely won the Virginia senate seat with the extraordinary assistance of the Macca media which played and replayed a statement by his opponent that should have been of only minor significance. Even with all that help, Webb only won by about 500 votes.
The guy has a prickley personality and was not a particular good campaigner. Liberals like him because he is a former Marine who is against the war in Iraq. Recent history has demonstrated that since being elected he has been mostly wrong about Iraq and particularly the surge. He has engaged in several attempts to insure our defeat while we were winning in Iraq.
I think he would be a terrible choice. The guy has written some very good books, but his policy position on the current war is misguided.

Dear Merv,
ReplyDeleteI respectfully disagree.
Webb would make an outstanding VP. Webb would bring a level of integrity to the White House that this country desperately needs. And, Webb has a sound understanding of military tactics and strategy; this will definitely help Obama.
Have you read A Time to Fight? I commend it to you.
I am a former Marine and former Republican who has been disillusioned with the Iraq war from the beginning, first with the beginning of the war and then with its conduct. David Petraeus is a good general and our military has done a great job. However, they should have been sent in with overwhelming force, clear objectives, and adequate equipment. With the proper amount of strategic vision and subsequent implementation, this war could have been brought to an honorable close much sooner.
Jim Webb would be a great person to help Barack Obama lead this country into real, meaningful, positive change. Webb hasn't forgotten where he comes from; he is still very much a Marine who cares about the troops, as evidenced by his GI Bill that will hopefully pass (over the objections of McCain and Bush).
We couldn't do better than Jim Webb.
All the best - Semper Fi,
Patrick
