More Dem hatred of energy production?

NY Post Editorial:

Gov. Spitzer and Attorney General An drew Cuomo yesterday filed papers to block the relicensing of the Indian Point nuclear power plant in Westchester - a breathtakingly irresponsible act by two men who know better.

They should be ashamed.

"The Indian Point relicensing application wholly fails to address a number of crucial issues, and it should not be granted in its present form," Spitzer said. "We cannot continue to roll the dice with the operation of Indian Point," Cuomo added. "We must . . . close Indian Point."

OK, they've got the pander-patter down cold. But where will New York get replacement juice?

Indian Point, after all, produces 18 percent to 38 percent of the city's power, depending on the season - or, on average, 25 percent of the daily load.

That's a lot of electrons.

And any serious observer knows that, as New York grows, it will need more clean juice, not less.

Meanwhile, even some "greens" have started to warm to nuclear power - recognizing that nukes produce virtually zero greenhouse gases.

Spitzer understands the need for adequate supplies of juice. He's careful to say, as he did yesterday, that Indian Point should be closed only after there is "sufficient replacement power available."

But that just makes his move to shut the plant even more cynical. What would happen if the NRC were to take the Spitzer-Cuomo petition at face value and not relicense Indian Point?

...

So the Democrats think that the cost of energy is too high and there solution is to further restrict supply? We need to be building more nuclear plants and making sure that the ones we have are run properly not shutting them down. This is just another example of how unserious Democrats are about energy policies.
