Pity for the perp instead of the victims
The NY Times is on something of a campaign against the Texas death penalty. In an editorial today it calls Texas a state without pity. That is an absurd statement. Texas has pity for the victims instead of the perps. The Times misplaced pity would mean more innocent Texans would be murdered. Studies have shown that the death penalty deters murders. Statistics demonstrate that on average as many as 18 murders are prevented for every execution. If Texas executes 30 people a year that is 540 lives that have been saved. It is too bad the NY Times would rather see those 540 killed than the 30 murderers who really deserve to die.
