Palestinians still fighting for occupation designation in Gaza despite Israel's pullout

AFP:

The Palestinians intend to oppose any move by Israel to have the UN Security Council declare its 38-year occupation of the Gaza Strip over following the withdrawal of all Jewish settlers.

Foreign minister Nasser al-Qidwa said Israel's continued control of Gaza's air space and territorial waters meant any such move would be premature and should await a comprehensive peace agreement.

"The international community must maintain the Palestinian territories' current legal status after the unilateral Israeli withdrawal," said Qidwa, who travelled to Moscow this week to put his case to one of the five permanent members with veto powers on the Security Council.

Looks like they are trying to build their case for failure in the future. Or, they could be expecting that attacks by Palestinians may prevoke the reoccupation of Gaza.
