An ambush that backfired

CNN:

The U.S. military said 24 insurgents were killed south of Baghdad on Sunday when they attacked coalition forces, while other insurgents killed at least seven people in three hot spots north of Baghdad.

The killing of the two dozen insurgents took place at noon on the outskirts of Iraq's capital.

Reports of this action are very sketchy. The initial report, I saw just mentioned that 24 Iraqis had been killed and gave the impression they were the victim of another enemy attack. It now turns out that it was the enemy that was killed in an ambush that went bad. This tells a lot about why the enemy has been avoiding contact with US forces, it can be lethal. Apparently several enemy troops were also wounded and captured. The US troops suffered no KIA's but did have seven or so wounded.
