The case for the A-10
The Air Force wants to ground one of its most potent weapons. The A-10 is a close air support weapon that works in close coordination with ground troops. While some look at it as an ugly beast brought in when troops are in trouble, it is much more. By taking on enemy elements in close contact with US forces, the ground troops give the Air Force something it could not do on its own. It gives them a fixed target they can destroy. The Marine Corps, pioneered close air support and used it like heavy artillery. Perhaps, the USMC should see about putting a tail hook on the A-10 and use them to replace their Harriers.
