A chilling conspiracy unraveled this week as federal authorities charged a self-proclaimed Hamas operative, Mohamad Hamad, alongside two Pittsburgh women, Talya Lubit and Micaiah Collins, in a foiled terror scheme involving pipe bombs and anti-Semitic vandalism.
Hamad, a 23-year-old with dual U.S.-Lebanese citizenship, faces a nine-count superseding indictment that exposes his alleged deception to infiltrate the U.S. Air Force and his brazen pursuit of violence.
“Mohamad Hamad lied about his loyalty to the United States, among other false statements, in an attempt to obtain a Top-Secret security clearance,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti. “During that time, he openly expressed support for Lebanon, Hezbollah, and Hamas. In addition to his previously charged role in defacing Jewish religious property, he also conspired with others named in this Superseding Indictment to manufacture and detonate destructive devices.”
Hamad’s descent into extremism began shortly after enlisting in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard in June 2023. From his home in Coraopolis, Pa., he privately messaged an associate, declaring, “[i]t’s still Palestine on top though make no mistake.”
During Air Force training, he shared graphic footage of Hamas’ attacks on Israel, writing, “Us Muslims never surrender or back down,” according to the indictment.
In a bid for a top-secret security clearance, Hamad completed paperwork in December 2023 and underwent interviews with the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency. Prosecutors allege he fabricated his allegiance to the U.S. to advance his sinister motives.
His audacity peaked in a June 2024 message to Collins, where he boasted, “Been a terrorist since I was a kid in Lebanon, real s–t,” alongside a childhood photo of himself wielding a gun.
