Greg Abbott won easy reelection as Texas Governor
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott won reelection over Democratic challenger Beto O'Rourke on Tuesday night, securing the incumbent Republican a third term as Texas' highest executive.
The Texas Tribune called the race in favor of Abbott around 9:45 p.m. CT on Tuesday night. Final figures were not available as some votes remained outstanding. Abbott entered Tuesday's election with a sizeable polling advantage over his opponent. A University of Houston poll published on Tuesday, Nov. 1 found Abbott led O'Rourke 53 to 40 percent among likely voters just a week out from election day.
