Germany's irrational embrace of Russian gas pipeline could be costly

NY Times:

German Town Fears Ruin by U.S. Effort to Stop Russian Pipeline

Three U.S. senators and the Trump administration want to halt Gazprom’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline by imposing sanctions on a Baltic port that is supplying the project.
The administration's opposition to this project makes sense.  The US is pledged to assist Germany if it is attacked by Russia, yet the Germans are making a deal with Russia that will make them vulnerable to having their fuel supply cut off at the whim of the Russian government.  It makes even less sense when the US can easily supply LNG shipments to Germany.  Perhaps the Germans are worried about a Biden win and the Democrats war on fossil fuels.  This German town would be better served by becoming a port for LNG shipments.

BTW, this fight by Trump and his administration should shame those who pushed the Russian collusion hoax.  If Trump were Putin's puppet as Democrats claimed, he would be supporting the pipeline.  It is funny how the media overlooks this.
