The Nazi leader who saved the Danish Jews

BBC:
The tip-off from a Nazi that saved my grandparents
This is a long piece about how many Danish Jews escaped to Sweden before a Hitler ordered purge.  The high ranking Nazi told several people in the Jewish community about the coming purge and it gave them time to hire boats to take them across the water to Sweden.
...
When the extent of the failure of the round-up became apparent, Hitler telegrammed Best ordering him to explain himself. He responded that he had done as he had been ordered - he had made Denmark Judenrein.
...
Not only was it a humane move, but it was also shrewd because to do as he had been ordered would have sparked greater resistance in Denmark and deprived Germany of food needed for its war effort.
