Yemen is a front in a war being waged by Iran against the Saudis

NY Times:

This Is the Front Line of Saudi Arabia’s Invisible War

The Khashoggi crisis has called attention to a largely overlooked Saudi-led war in Yemen. On a rare trip to the front line, we found Yemenis fighting and dying in a war that has gone nowhere.
Iran is attempting to block the sea lanes for oil exports from the Middle East and it sees Yemen as another potential choke point on Saudi Arabia's flank.  All it takes is a look at the map to see the strategic implications and why the Saudis are resisting this proxy war by Iran.  Unlike the NY Times, the Saudis cannot afford to ignore the implications of Iran's moves.

The whole Khashoggi "crisis" seems to be an attempt to ignore the strategic implications of attacking the Saudis and ignoring the Iranian threat.  The case should be treated like a crime and not an international crisis.  It seems over the top that the media is more concerned about this than it was the murder of a US ambassador in Libya.
