Is Rev Wright issue about race or a racist demagogue

NY Times:

Race and Religion Rear Their Heads

A Republican political strategist’s leaked proposal for an attack ad suggests that questions about President Obama’s race and religion are still contentious
I never saw questions about Rev. Wright as about Obama's race.  The questions are about his judgment in sitting in the pews of a racist demagogue for 20 years and somehow failing to notice.   How can you hear a preacher say "God damn America" and not think he was at least weird?  Why is raising questions about that judgment, somehow about Obama's race.

What it sounds like to me, is that Obama's campaign knows people think Wright is weird and they are worried that talking about him creates a vulnerability for Obama.  Their reaction and that of the media suggest they know the guy presents a problem for Obama.   Playing it as about race is typical of how liberals try to shut off debate on issues where they are losing.  Heck, they are even giving seminars on how to do for House members.

With a recent book suggesting that Obama through the guy who hired Michelle for a job for which she was overpaid, offered Wright a $150,000 bribe to shut up in 2008.   It was sort of like John Edwards attempt to cover up uncomfortable information in the same year.  Was Obama being racist?

One of the inevitable results of the reaction to the original Times story about a potential ad campaign mentioning Wright is that the Democrats and the media have essentially taken Romney's religion off the table too.  Maybe they are angry about that too.

Kathleen Parker also gets the point, even if many others in the media would prefer to ignore it.
