Falling limbs and trees

NY Times:
Neglected, Rotting Trees Turn Deadly
Trees along Literary Walk in Central Park, where Elmaz Qyra, 46, was killed in February 2010 when a branch snapped on a tree designated for removal.
Lawsuits reveal a strained, erratic upkeep system in which warning signs were missed and repairs were delayed to save money.
I understand the problem.  After last year's drought here in Texas I lost dozens of large water oaks.  It has been a challenge to clean up on the several acres around my house.  I have cleared the ones closest to the house and cut them into firewood for next year.   I have more to take care of before my grand kids come this summer.  I am now 67 years old, and find it difficult to work on the project more than a few hours a day.  We have had some strong winds come through with storms this year that have toppled many of the limbs.  This has actually made the job easier because you can clear them before attacking the tree's main body, but it would clearly be dangerous in a more public venue.

Fortunately the trees closest to the house are mainly live oaks and they survived the drought in good shape.
