The Falwell-Flynt friendship

Larry Flynt tells how he and Jerry Falwell became good friends in a piece in the LA Times.

It stemmed from a case brought by Falwell against Flynt over a parody of Falwell. Flynt lost all the way to the Supreme Court where he won an improbable victory. It was after that that the two got together to debate their views before audiences around the country and became friends.

What I find more ironic is that the decision by the court which was hailed by liberals is now causing them consternation as conservatives use parodies to ridicule liberals. Rush Limbaugh's Barack the Magic Negro, is driving many liberals crazy because they misinterpret what is happening in the song. A close listen finds that Rush is making fun of the racist remarks made by liberals about Obama, but you would never know that from the liberal reaction. Rush has many other great parodies, including a John Edwards singing I am Woman.

One of the best parody sites on the web is Scott Ott's Scrappleface, which regularly makes fun of liberals. One reason it is so easy to make fun of them is that they have no sense of humor and they take themselves too seriously. This piece on Jimmy Carter is an example of his humor.

Just a day after former President Jimmy Carter told reporters that the Bush administration is “the worst in history” the current White House resident called Mr. Carter “the best former president ever.”

“I know that President Carter and I have had our differences,” said Mr. Bush, “But I think most Americans will agree with me that he’s a terrific ex-president. Things have never been better since Jimmy Carter left office.”

...
It is hard to argue that things have not improved since Carter left office.
