Opposition grows to proposed UK boycott of Israel lecturers

The row surrounding the proposed boycott of Israeli lecturers who do not publicly oppose "Israeli apartheid policies" escalated yesterday after it emerged that thousands of international academics had signed a petition opposing the plans.

Organised by the Israeli-led International Advisory Board for Academic Freedom, the online petition calls on the 69,000 members of the National Association of Teachers in Further and Higher Education (Natfhe) to reject the boycott motion when it goes before delegates at the union's annual conference, which begins in Blackpool today .

Yesterday a separate Israeli group, including both Jews and Arabs, said it was flying to Britain to brief the Natfhe conference about a new Hebrew University programme, approved last week, to grant undergraduate degrees to personnel in Shin Bet, an arm of the Israeli intelligence services, which campaigners say highlights links between Israeli academia and the occupied territories.

The Natfhe motion, to be debated on Monday, criticises "Israeli apartheid policies, including construction of the exclusion wall, and discriminatory educational practices", and "invites members to consider their responsibility for ensuring equity and non-discrimination in contacts with Israeli institutions or individuals."

How did teachers in the UK become so ignorant and bigotted? If you want to see apratheid go into the territories where the Palestinians are in charge and see how many Jews are permitted to live and have businesses, then compare to to Israel where Arabs not only live and have a business but vote and run for office. Why would any rational human being come out on the side of a real estae worshipping death cult over a democratic goverment?

Drones appear to be replacing jets for many operations.  The Russia-Ukraine war is an example of that.  Drones are often hard to detect and can be used for intelligence operations as well as for attacking enemy targets.  It would not surprise me to see drones engaging other drones in combat.  They also cost much less than manned fighters.

Apple's huge investment in US including Texas facility

Blaze: Apple announced a $500 billion commitment to infrastructure in the United States over four years, its largest commitment to domestic spending to date. Apple said it will expand teams and facilities in Arizona, California, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Washington as part of its new spending. With a new facility in Houston, Texas, Apple will reportedly double its investment in advanced manufacturing along with increasing investments in AI and silicon engineering. The company said in a press release that the Houston facility will produce servers to support Apple Intelligence, the "personal intelligence system that helps users write, express themselves, and get things done." ... The Texas facility will be for advanced technologies.   Texas has become a place that is very supportive of the tech industries.  Austin and Houston have seen much of the tech growth in the state.  Texas universities have been active in the AI field.
