US finally telling Syria to stop jihadis at the Damacus airport

I have been saying for months that the choke point in the jihadis infiltration route into Iraq was the Damacus airport. It is much easier for Damacus to stop them there than at the border. Finally someone in the US government is saying the same thing.

Reuters reports:

...

"Our patience is running out with Syria," the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, told a news briefing at the U.S. State Department in Washington.

"It simply must close the (guerrilla) training camps. It should not allow youngsters misguided by al Qaeda, from Saudi Arabia, from Yemen, from North Africa, to fly into Damascus international airport," he said.

Asked what the conseqences would be for Syria if it did not act, Khalilzad said: "I would not like to elaborate ... I think they should understand what I mean."
I also like his answer on consequences. It is better to let them contemplate just how unpleasant those consequences might be. Hopefully it will be more than a bad chit at the UN.
