I'm baaack
Wednesday I picked up my daughter and grandson, who have just returned from Bangkok, Thailand for their annual vist. I then took them to my mon and dad's in Arkansas. The four generation reunion was a big hit.
The trip takes me throught Shrevesport, LA and I turn off of I-20 at Minden, LA. The only reason I point this out is that it was fairly east to see that the gaming industry has made a significant investment in the area. Shrevesport had several large casinos, but Minden was the real suprise. It is a relatively small town--I would extimate the population at under 20,000. However, near the exit ramp I used there were three combination truckstops and casinos, two of which appear to have opened this year. Another large truckstop/casino was under construction. It appeared that there were several rigs parked in the back lot taking advantage of the facilities.
Magnolia, AR also showed new growth, none of which involved gambling. The town was a buzz with excitement over the "Magnolia Festival." The state college in Magnolia, Southern, calls its team the Mule Riders. I guess that could be a scary mascot.
