How does Donald Rumsfeld survive as defense secretary?

Much of what has happened to the military on his watch has been catastrophic. In Iraq, more than 1,600 American troops have died and many thousands have been maimed in a war that Mr. Rumsfeld mishandled from the beginning and still has no idea how to win. The generals are telling us now that the U.S. is likely to be bogged down in Iraq for years, and there are whispers circulating about the possibility of "defeat."

OK Bob, Rumsfeld survives because he is one of the best Secretaries of Defense in history. He has won two wars with very few casualties and has been transforming the military to fight the modern wars. The thing that people like Herbert do not seem to recognize is that their policy is one that makes it easy to defeat the US becuase they are willing to lose to a few thousand knuckleheads in Irag rather than defeat their wek insurgency. Since liberals are so eager to bend their policy to avoid defeating a weak insurgency Americans do not trust people who agree with Herbert with power. His criticism of Rumsfeld only demonstrates how out of touch he is. Bob, the 1,600 casualties in Iraq is still fewer than people like you thought the US would have in the major combat phase of operations. If you knew anything about history you would recognize that the enemy in Iraq has not one engagement with US forces and is incapable of winning any engagement with us forces. The only way they could win is if people like you force a retreat in the face of a clear victory. Bob, you are putting your ignorance on display in front of millions of people. How do you still have a job?
