Iowa county accused of trying to thwart ICE
Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird sued Winneshiek County, which said it would thrwart Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids.
Dan Marx, the county's sheriff, said his department would “interfere and interrupt” the raids.
Marx said his department is “always willing to assist with verifying credentials and the legitimacy of any paperwork federal agents should have to make certain your rights are not being abused.”
The attorney general said Iowa is not a sanctuary for illegal immigration.
"Anyone who threatens to ‘block, interfere and interrupt’ with immigration enforcement, as this sheriff did, will be held accountable,” Bird said, according to Fox News.
It seems odd that a sheriff in Iowa would be interfering with the legitimate efforts of ICE to enforce US immigration laws. This sounds like a need to replace a sheriff who is interfering with law enforcement rather than supporting law enforcement.
