Toxic Partisanship? Bill Clinton Says He Had It Worse, Yet Got Things Done

The former president argues that the personal attacks were even harsher when he was in the White House, raising the question of whether a bitter atmosphere should be an excuse for political gridlock.
Clinton made his share of mistakes but had a knack for negotiating with his adversaries that Obama wholly lacks.   George Bush was reviled by some Democrats to the point that they actually publicly fantasized about his assassination.  The NY Times actually gave a somewhat favorable review to a movie about such a fantasy.  Yet Bush was able to get things done even when Democrats were opposing him to appease the kook left of the party.

Obama may go down in history as one of the worst negotiators to ever hold the office.
