Canadian terrorist a metaphor for radical Islam

NY Times:

Ottawa Gunman Turned Radical as Life Crumbled

A portrait of the gunman shows he was an increasingly troubled, mentally unstable man who initially may have embraced religion not as a political cause, but as an attempt to scaffold a disintegrating life.
That is true of many of those in ISIL and al Qaeda.  They see the failure of the Muslim culture and come to the conclusion it is because they are not Islamic enough so they ratchet up the radicalism even more with each failure.  The initial success of ISIL is seens as a validation of the radicalism and that is why it is attracting volunteers.  The world is going to have to destroy ISIL before it destroys the world.
