While the article seems to think these boondoggles are a good idea, I find them appalling.  There is probably a place for solar and wind energy on remote bases where we can avoid exposing fuel convoys to enemy attacks, but large scale alternative energy projects for large US bases are a colossal waste of money on inefficient energy.   If we are cutting troops strength to engage in this folly that is a mistake that could lead to a lot of people getting killed.
